Set high on the Cissbury Estate in West Sussex, Cissbury Barns is a rural wedding venue offering relaxed, beautifully considered countryside weddings within the South Downs National Park. It’s a place with deep roots, wide open skies and a sense of calm that makes it feel quietly different from anywhere else.

The people behind your day

At Cissbury, our experienced team is here to guide and support you from your very first enquiry through to the moment your wedding day begins. We know the estate, the Barns and the flow of a wedding day in detail, and that knowledge allows us to anticipate what’s needed and make everything run smoothly.

We pay close attention to the details that matter, while always keeping sight of the bigger picture - a day that feels relaxed, well-paced and enjoyable for you and your guests. Our role is to provide calm, thoughtful guidance so you can feel confident every step of the way.

We understand that a wedding is both a personal and practical investment, and we take that responsibility seriously. By building strong, trusted relationships with our couples and their families, we create an experience that feels well organised, well supported and genuinely cared for.

An estate with a story

The Cissbury Estate sits high in the South Downs, a family-run wedding estate in West Sussex shaped by more than two centuries of history, landscape and quiet care. It’s a place with deep roots and wide open skies, offering a setting that feels grounded, private and naturally beautiful.

The Barns were built in the early 19th century as part of the working estate, originally used as lambing yards to shelter sheep during the spring. Constructed by Napoleonic prisoners, they remained in agricultural use for almost 200 years before being carefully restored and reimagined as a wedding venue in 2016. The flint walls and open yards still define the character of the space today, giving weddings at Cissbury a sense of heritage and authenticity that can’t be recreated.

The Cissbury Estate has been in the Wyatt family since the late 18th century, with the Penfold crest - a tree and fence - dating back to the time the Barns were built. The estate is now owned and run by Geoffrey and Etta Wyatt, who moved here in 2012 and set about giving the Barns a new future when traditional farming was no longer viable. Working closely with the South Downs National Park and the local community, the restoration was approved in 2016 and the first wedding followed later that year.

Alongside the Barns, the house and grounds remain a private family home and an important part of the wedding experience. Couples meet their registrars here, gather before the ceremony and, if time allows, enjoy photographs on the staircase and within the grounds - a rare opportunity to celebrate within a living country estate rather than a purpose built venue.
